We can hear our neighbors going up and down stairs and they have carpet so we don t want to increase the noise we make that they can hear. Best diy project ever. Pulled up carpet and padding using gloves i used a pair of gardening gloves cutting the carpet with a box cutter. If you can remove any obstacles on your carpet if needed.

The staple remover that i used was bought for stripping upholstery but it made the job so much easier. Apply leverage with the angled tip to pop the staples out. The carpet was old and dirty giving the entry a very dark and dated feel. You will do lots of pulling and slicing to get the carpet off.

Using a varnish stripper remove the top coat from the stair treads. Sand the wood using multiple grit sandpaper. Fill in any holes in the wood with wood filler.

Remove the carpet from the stairs.
